Ozone Alert! Program Data and Monitoring
The "Ozone Season" for the
Tulsa Area is from May 1st. through the end of September. During
those months the weather conditions and hydrocarbon emissions combine
in such a way that ground level ozone is formed. You might say it
is "cooked." Ground level ozone can reach levels deemed unsafe by
the EPA. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality maintains
five ozone monitoring stations in the Tulsa area, as indicated on
the map below. The measurements from those monitoring stations are
used by the E.P.A. to determine if Tulsa County meets the requirements
of the Clean Air Act.
